HF Propagation and Space Weather

VOACAP (Voice of America Coverage Analysis Program) is free professional high-frequency (HF) propagation prediction software from NTIA/ITS, originally developed for Voice of America (VOA). The VOACAP site has helpful tools for determining the best HF bands to use based on real-time science. It's a deep dive into the many aspects of propagation and the myriad things that have an affect on it.

PSK Reporter

PSK Reporter is a digital tool designed for amateur radio operators that provides real-time propagation reports on the internet. It allows radio operators to see how far their signal is reaching, which bands are open, and which frequencies are in use at any given time. By collecting data from various sources, including automated receivers and user reports, PSK Reporter creates a heatmap of radio activity around the world, allowing operators to analyze and optimize their transmission strategies. With PSK Reporter, amateur radio enthusiasts can gain insights into how their signal is propagating and discover new contacts, ultimately enhancing their overall experience in the hobby.

RF Calculators

A series of RF calculators for radio frequency engineers. These calculators help with unit conversions, VSWR calculations, attenuator design, antenna design, radars, and various other basic calculations that are often required.

POTA Spotting

A link to the pota.app website for spotting yours or other's park activations and uploading your .adi files. You can also use this link to find out more about the Parks On The Air program.

Winlink Email

Winlink Global Radio Email is a system for sending and receiving email messages over radio frequencies. It is designed to provide reliable and efficient communication in situations where traditional communication methods are unavailable, such as during emergencies or in remote areas. Winlink Email uses a combination of radio protocols, including AX.25 Packet Radio and the Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) protocol, to establish connections between radio stations and to route messages between them. This system can be used with a variety of radio equipment, including handheld radios and computer-based modems, and can be accessed through a variety of software programs.

JS8Call

JS8Call is software using the JS8 Digital Mode providing weak signal keyboard to keyboard messaging to amateur radio operators.

AX.25 Packet Radio is a protocol used for digital communication over amateur radio frequencies. It enables the transmission of digital data, including messages, files, and telemetry data, over radio waves. AX.25 Packet Radio uses a standard format for data packets, which include source and destination addresses, control information, and data payloads. This protocol is commonly used in Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and other emergency communication networks, as it provides a reliable means of communication during disasters or other emergencies.

Packetradiomap.com appears to be corrupted at the moment.

Go to the Packet Radio Map to search and view locations for other packet stations that may be in your area, or an area where you are going to be visiting. Although the internet and high-speed data networks have made packet radio sit in the backseat since the late 90's, there are still a lot of folks using it and maintaining the infrastructure. It's still alive and kicking, and a great way for technician class hams to get involved with digital emergency communications.

EC4P Training can be fun!

Summits On The Air

Welcome to Parks on the Air ® (POTA) portable amateur radio operations that promote emergency awareness and communications from national/federal and state/provincial level parks.

Summits On The Air

Summits On The Air

SOTA has been carefully designed to make participation possible for all Radio Amateurs and Shortwave Listeners - this is not just for mountaineers! There are awards for activators (those who ascend to the summits) and chasers (who either operate from home, a local hilltop or are even Activators on other summits).

Winter Field Day

Winter Field Day

Winter Field Day

Winter Field Day is a communications exercise. WFD is held on the last full weekend in January. WFD can be worked from the comfort of your home or in a remote location. You can participate by yourself or get your friends, family, or whole club involved. Winter Field Day is open to participants worldwide.

ARRL Field Day

Winter Field Day

Winter Field Day

ARRL Field Day is the most popular on-the-air event held annually in the US and Canada. On the fourth weekend of June, more than 35,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs, groups or simply with friends to operate from remote locations.
